My Inspiration to Pursue a Career in Glass Fusing

In February 2015, I moved from Buckinghamshire to Gloucestershire, and one day I decided to visit Gloucester Quays Christmas Market. At the market, I purchased my first piece of fused glass, a ‘poppy candle shield’ as a Christmas present for a relative. In early 2016, I contacted the seller, as I was very intrigued by the art and wanted to find out more about glass fusing. I would not consider myself creative, however I wanted to find out more about glass fusing.

Towards the end of the Summer 2016, I attended my first glass fusing workshop and this was the start of an obsession that has turned into a hobby/new business venture. My full-time job is quite stressful, and this allows me to totally switch off and to use my creative side to make fused glass items

Over the next year, I attended approximately 10 weekend workshops and 10 evening sessions and then in September 2017, I made the decision to purchase my own kiln so that I could create my own fused glass without limitations of kiln space. Exploring my creative side has been an enjoyable experience, and the opportunity to make items at my leisure for my friends and family as gifts, and/or commissions has been fantastic.

Fusing glass is an amazing process, from seeing the glass in its natural cold state to fusing colours together in the kiln to make a beautiful piece of art. I get excited every time I open the kiln to see a finished piece of work!

My Future

I have now set myself a goal to change my career in the next 5-10 years and make glass fusing a full-time venture!
