"I commissioned Michelle to produce a plate with a view of my brother and his fiancée’s country cottage home. My brother was getting married and I wanted to get him and his new wife something that would really be individual and bespoke and have a special meaning for their wedding. They had bought a country cottage together which was a lovely sandy yellow ‘Cotswold stone’ colour. I had a vague idea that this could be made into a piece of glass work. 

I gave Michelle a picture of the cottage and was expecting a plate with a simplistic view of a cottage on it.

When the plate arrived, it was much much more than I had expected. There were even little bricks on the cottage walls and an array of little flowers of every shade in the garden. The colour was a lovely yellow that reflected the ‘Cotswold stone’ on a green background for the green valley. Little windows poked out of the roof, and the conservatory was depicted in detail. It captured exactly the cottage in both design and feel - colourful, quaint, quirky and homely with a little rose garden.

This is a special one-off handmade design and it feels all that and more. The plate has a lovely touch and texture and it captures the essence of an English country cottage. The object is timeless and it captures a rural idyll in a moment in time. When I received a special call of thanks from the bride on her honeymoon, I could tell that the plate had touched a nerve and would be a timeless gift for them both."
